2nd Annual "Pulling Together For Teens"
Airplane Pull Event

MaineTeenTalk, in conjunction with our partners at Southern Maine Aviation, held it's 2nd Annual "Pulling Together For Teens" Airplane Pull at the Sanford Regional Airport on Saturday, June 19th. The day began with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Cockpit Cafe in the Southern Maine Aviation hangar. It continued with the Classic Car Show hosted by the Local B.P.O.E.
Sanford Lodge 1470. Of course, the highlight of the day was the Airplane Pull itself. This year's competition featured four teams; a professional scoring and timing system; and multiple opportunities for each team to pull. The event was won by the team representing the Acton Fire Department, but everyone involved had a spectacular time! Check out the team photos below, as well as their individual team results. We hope to see YOU at next year's pull!

Wolfe's Neck Trek 5k!

November 14th, 2009

MaineTeenTalk was pleased to present its first annual Wolfe's Neck Trek 5k event on November 14th, 2009. This 5k charity event was held at the scenic Wolfe's Neck Farm venue located in Freeport. The course for the 3.1 mile run began at the parking lot of Wolfe's Neck Farm. It consisted of two 1.55 mile loops around the camp roads and wooded paths near beautiful Casco Bay. One hundred fifteen runners of all ages and skill levels took part in the event. The top three male and female runners in each age category were recognized with race medals for their stellar finishing times. Dr. Sears Zone Bars donated energy bars for the run and Poland Spring gave a generous water donation. Road ID donated six gift certificates, as well as race bibs and shoe tags. The timing was expertly handled by BART Race Services. Shaws Supermarket furnished some of the race day fruit. The most significant sponsor, of course, was Wolfe's Neck Farm for providing the outstanding venue. The event was a huge success, in great part thanks to: our race coordinator, Ross Endres: the MTT staff, as well as their families and friends; and a very dedicated group of Cheverus High School student volunteers. We received a lot of positive feedback from the runners, who are looking forward to the race again next year.  For a breakdown of the race times by age category, click on the link below.

Summer Internship
July to August 2009

For the month of July MaineTeenTalk was fortunate to secure the intern services of Denver University Senior, Peter Lowell. Peter livews in Yarmouth, ME.  He was available in July to help us research and organize several of our on-going projects. Affectionately known to the MTT staff as "Peter Probie" (seen above with his trademark "Probie Pen"), Peter's dazzling personality, lively sense of humor and attention to detail greatly enhanced the office and it's summer tasks. We wish him well with his senior year at Denver University and his outstanding D1 Lacrosse efforts. If we are lucky, we will see him again during school break.

MaineTeenTalk was proud to offer a new workshop for teens which took place twice June 2009. The focus of these events was to teach teens a different form of expression by using the body to communicate emotion by creating "statues". Facilitated by MTT educator, Jules Jensen, both workshops were well received by the participating teens, and served as a unique opportunity to explore complex issues. MaineTeenTalk would like to thank both the Space Gallery, and the St. Lawrence Arts Center for their donations of theater space to host these workshops. Another Successful Year!
June 2009

The 2008-2009 school year was another successful one here at MaineTeenTalk. Our program was offered in 20 different high schools across the state, and reached close to 2000 students. We had the opportunity to present to teens at the Long Creek Youth Development Center, Youth Alternatives Program, and Sweetser. The research data gathered this year continues to help shape our curriculum amd validate our effectiveness.  The feedback from teachers and students has been extremely positive. A huge Thank You to all of the schools that helped make this year a success, and we look forward to another great school year starting in the Fall!

CLYNK
April 2009

In April of 2009, MaineTeenTalk began a partnership with "CLYNK" in an effort to help support Healthy Relationships Education in Maine. By collecting cans and bottles and turning them into "CLYNK" locations at local Hannaford stores, MaineTeenTalk is able to supplement its funding for our educational program. Interested participants can help by taking their used cans and bottles to their local Hannaford Supermarket and requesting to donate them to MaineTeenTalk.  Let's all go "green" for teens! A special thank you goes to Hannaford Supermarket for designating MaineTeenTalk as an eligible "Charity of the Month". Also recent partnerships with Tri-Me and Athletes For A Fit Planet have definitely bolstered our going green efforts. Thank you for your support!

1st Quarter 2009 Team Builder
February 5th, 2009

The snowy weather in January and February made the first quarter team building event an indoor one. That didn't bother anyone though, as the afternoon was spent celebrating several staff members (and one good friend) who have February birthdays. Cake and songs were followed by several rounds of competitive board game play . As a special treat we all got to enjoy the company of staffer Jules Jensen's sisters who were visiting from their native country of Denmark.

2008-2009 Teacher Workshops
February 2009

In November of 2008 and February of 2009, MaineTeenTalk hosted a series of workshops across the state, featuring the MTT Healthy Relationships curriculum.  These workshops provided a great opportunity for our organization to establish new school partnerships and revitalize existing connections.  The workshops featured the introduction of new curriculum content and enhancements.  Attending educators received contact hours, doorprizes and classroom supplies.

 4th Quarter Team Builder

October 17th, 2008

Once a quarter, the staff likes to regroup and reconnect. Due to our busy teaching schedule and our many on-going initiatives, there are some weeks where we might not see each other at all.  Because we are committed tohealthy relationships education, we would be remiss if we didn't on our own. This quarter we got into the spirit of Fall by traveling to Alfred Maine and visiting a local corn maze and pumpkin patch. The day was a lot of fun and we only got lost once.............................
