E. COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students will understand that skillful communication can contribute to better health for them, their families, and the community.  Students in secondary grades will be able to:
 

1. Demonstrate healthy ways to listen and communicate effectively with family, peers, and others.
2. Demonstrate strategies that can be used to prevent or solve conflicts without harm.
3. Analyze the possible causes of conflict in schools, families, and communities.

F. DECISION-MAKING AND GOAL SETTING
Students will learn how to set personal goals and make decisions that lead to better health. Students in secondary grades will be able to:

 
1. Demonstrate various decision-making strategies that can be used to address behaviors that lead to trouble.

Career Preparation
 
D. BALANCING RESPONSIBILITIES
Students will acquire and apply skills/concepts required to balance personal, family, community, and work responsibilities. Students in secondary grades will be able to:
 
1. Illustrate how resources and support systems, available within a community, assist individuals in their roles as
    workers and family members.
2. Demonstrate an ability to manage personal resources.

English Language Arts
 
C. LANGUAGE AND IMAGES
Students will demonstrate an understanding of how words and images communicate. Students in secondary grades will be able to:
 
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among perception, thought, and language.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of how language considerations and representations involving gender affect
    communication.

  Description of Health Education Content Areas
 
1. Community Health-
  • Healthful school, work and community environment.
 
4. Family Life Education-
  • Marriage, divorce, physical and sexual abuse.
 
5. Growth and Development-
  • Adolescent development including social emotional issues.
 
6. Personal Healthy including Mental and Emotional Health-
  • Self-concept, personality, emotions, responsiblity, behavior, communications skills, responsible decision

           making skills, peer influence, stress management, and suicide prevention.
